In Real Life

At Insight Counseling, we have observed the gradual impact of screen overuse on young people with growing concern, and we have created a 10-week skills-building and therapy group, “In Real Life,” to help teens feel successful as they pursue their goals and are encouraged and “pushed” to expand their worlds.

Parents are intimately involved in this process, and the in-person group offers family sessions, coaching, and a biweekly parent-skills and empowerment group. We help parents embrace the task of setting and sticking to reasonable behavioral expectations that slowly increase over time.

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, group therapy, peer reinforcement, parent coaching, and assessment and treatment of underlying anxiety and depression, all three of these young people were able to break the cycle of avoidance and “addiction” and feel empowered to make positive changes.
